Dock Icon does not save

Post by dfinstein »

Whenever I restart my computer, my Adium dock icon does not save. Instead, it defaults to the green duck and then changes to my preferred icon as soon as I open the program. The icon stays as is until the next restart, but then goes back to the duck again. When we were on 0.75 I read that this would be fixed in 0.76 - but it does not seem to be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The Adium.icns file within Adium.app/Contents/Resources does not seem to be changed by Adium. If you want, you can make a .icns file yourself from one of the images within the dock icon package, rename it to Adium.icns, and replace the file within Adium.app.

I know this has been discussed before, but the search feature in this forum isn't exactly what I would call great. I just tried searching for that myself, and got a full page of topics that had absolutely nothing to do with this problem...

Are you sure it's not writing out on your copy? I've just tested:
a) My developer build of .8svn
b) My personal build of 0.76
c) The build of 0.76 downloadable from adiumx.com

And all three update the Adium.icns file as well as the Finder preview when a new dock icon selection is made. Am I missing something?
The duck still burns.

Everything works for me as well, I just find that I have to remove Adium from the dock and put it back in again and then everything gets updated.

I am having the same problem with 0.76

The icon never updates in the Finder, and it only updates in the dock when I open Adium. I've been having this problem since 0.73 though I believe...

Oh. Actually, I've never tried. I always throw in my own Adium.icns file before I launch a new version. I'll make sure to try it without the next time I update.

I haven't tried making my own Adium.icns file, but regardless I thought that this bug was fixed in 0.75, and now we're up to 0.76. But yes, I have been having the problem since way back at 0.73. I tried taking Adium out of the dock completely and putting it back in but to no avail. I'm not sure what to do from here. What's this I hear about a Mac OS X icon cache? Does that have something to do with it?

I had this problem immediately after the upgrade - it wasn't solved by moving the icon out of the dock, until I first switched dock icons in the prefs. Seems I needed to do that to update the Finder icon properly as Adium wasn't doing it on its own.
