Automatically IM specified person while you're away?

Post by xSMASHxHOUSEx »

Just wondering if there's a script or something that'll allow you to IM somebody on your buddylist with a specified message -- while you're away -- as soon as they sign on.

I can't count how many times I've needed to pass something on to one of my buddies, but they weren't signed on, and I couldn't wait around to send the message. The option to email or maybe even call the person is usually there, but I have a number of friends who don't check their email regularly. And as far as calling, well......it's easier to remember important things when it's in writing.

So yeah, just wondering...I've always thought this would be a cool idea...

Get Info on the contact and go to the Alerts tab, add an alert event that will send them a message the next time they sign on and type the message in the field. Tada!
Try my software!

Or you can try sending them a message when they're not signed on, and when the alert comes up to tell you that they're not signed on, select "send later". Your message will automatically be sent the next time that buddy signs on.

Does this work for buddies that dont have Yahoo? I know Yahoo has a offline messages feature, but I have never tried it with a AIM buddy.

Adium's Send Later depends upon you being online and will send the next time you and your buddy are both online. It is not protocol-dependent.

It's a convenience for Contact->Get Contact's Info->Alerts->Add Alert and adding an alert for Event: Contact Seen, Action: Send Message, From: your current account, To: the specified contact, Message: the desired message.
The duck still burns.

I use AIM, and I tried sending a message to somebody who wasn't online, and I didn't see anything about "Sending Later". It's cool though, next time I'd need to do something like this, I'll use the Alert feature.
