Adium log-outs

Post by freakomat »

Hi!

I'm using the latest Adium-version with my icq-account, and its acting really weird. Sometimes i get logged out eleven times in five minutes! I tried other icq-clients and everything worked fine, so it can't be an icq-related issue. Reinstalling adium didn't help. I could switch to some other client, but compared to adium they all suck, adium is the best, so I'd really like to solve this problem.

Any ideas?

bye,
chris

When you say latest version, do you mean the latest released version, 0.89.1? Do you get an error message when you're logged out?

Yes, it's 0.89.1. And there are no error messages when i'm logged out... only, of course, after too many logouts, the usual "try it again in 10 minutes"-message.

I'm having the same problem with 0.89 and 0.89.1
I tried different clients to make sure it isn't my connection and unfortunately it seems to be an Adium-only issue. As a last idea I checked out the source a couple of days ago (I think on june 6th) and compiled Adium myself (which by the way worked amazingly flawless for me as a newbie). I think the self-compiled versions works better, I haven't had the problem for two days now, but I'm not really convinced yet. And of course I have no idea what (if anything at all) fixed the problem as I didn't change any of the sources, I just did kind of a nightly build.
By the way: what message style do you use? I used minimal and have changed to mockie when seraching for the error. Although I don't think it affects the issue I sticked with mockie as it works and I'm sorta superstitious

Well, compiling it myself sounds like a good idea. Definitely worth a try.

I used different kinds of message-styles. Smooth Operator, Plastic and Smooth Aqua. But it didnt make a difference concerning the logouts.

If you try, could you let me know if it works for you, too? As I said I'm still a little unsure if that really solved the problem or if I just was lucky so far.
Thanks,

I tried it, and it seems as if it solved the logout-problems. Unfortunately, whats even worse now, is that two of my friends aren't getting any message from me anymore, no matter how I try. I dont know, I might have to get up on adium now. May be the only solution for me. Pretty sad though.

"Two of your friends" doesn't go very far toward helping us look at your issue.

From what service? To what service? What is unique about these friends? Are they on a specific service, are they listed in a certaing group, are they within metacontacts, can you message them from other clients, what instant messaging program are they using?

Only icq - from icq to icq. Those friends are using Trillian ever since theyre on icq. I've been trying a lot of clients over the last two years, but that never happened. No certain group, no metacontacts, the same simple contact-list from the icq-server for every client. And yes, everything works fine with any other client, except adium.

Thanks for the info. I so far haven't experienced the new problem that you described, but if anything similar occurs I'll post it here.

PS: Was there a significant libgaim update since 0.89.1 and or something that might have solved the logout problem? Just curious.

The AIM implementation in 1.0svn uses joscar, which is completely different from libgaim. See the blog for info.

ICQ support in joscar is incomplete at this time.
