Wireless connection dropping MSN

Post by Ians »

Hi all,

My Daughter's and I have been very happy AdiumX users for quite a while now, but recently we've been having a more than sporadic wireless problem and at the moment it's always when they try to log into MSN using Adium, everythings going fine then someone starts Adium and the wireless connection drops (no signal strength) then when we unplug the Netgear WG614v2 and plug it back in, everything is back to normal except for Adium.

This occurs when using an intel iMac or an old G3 laptop (Lombard).

Any ideas?
Thanks
Ian

Ian,

That's interesting. Do you see the same problem connecting with other MSN clients, such as the official Microsoft Messenger client or aMSN? That would help us determine the source of the router crash.

evands,

Well seeing Adium is so cool we haven't needed to use any other, but I'll try some out to see.

It remind me of what happen every time I wake my PB from sleep. All of my accounts except my MSN accounts log back on. So the fastest way of getting back online is to quit and launch Adium again.

This also happens when I am away from my PB for a while. When I come back the MSN accounts have signed off.

Glad to hear it :D And I hate to ask you to go try something else... but with a really bizarre issue like the one you've described, it's much easier to help if we can determine if the problem is "MSN causes my router to do X" or "MSN via Adium causes my router to do X", since they are probably very different problems.

I've just tried out aMSN and that worked ok, so I tried Adium again and that's ok.
My Girls have Adium as an startup item, so I've asked them to take it off and wait till the computer has fully started, then start Adium.

I'll see how they get on tomorrow.
