adium quits on powerbook close... help?

Post by kirk »

when I shut my powerbook, adium quits. I'm not sure if this was covered already, I think I searched pretty thoroughly (sp?).. is there any way to make it so this doesnt happen?

Thanks a lot.

Quits? Or just disconnects? If you mean the latter, there's no way around it as your Powerbook can't maintain a connection when asleep.

Sleeping's equivalent in many ways to turning your computer off - you wouldn't be chatting with people while you were asleep, right? (although some swear I can hold a logical conversation in my sleep, but that's not the point...)

You can get little haxies that enable you to turn off automatic sleeping when you close the lid, I believe. But be warned, some portables will overheat if they run with the lid closed for too long.

Yeah, there's no way around it. It's just a function of the way sleep works - no network activity.

you could have an external usb mouse plugged into your powerbook. i know that when i close my lid and then plug in an external mouse i can wake the computer while the lids closed. you do know that your powerbook can operate with it's lid closed. if i had a nice apple display to use i would hook that up and work with my powerbook closed underneath.

bottom line.. wake your pb with an external mouse or keyboard

an external mouse might wake up the computer, but without an external keyboard and monitor, it'll go back to sleep in a few seconds. there's a hardware switch that forces sleep after a specified time unless the external monitor and keyboard are there.
