Remotely signing out of AIM screen name on another machine?

Post by Dash »

I have a Powermac G4 at home and I bring along my iBook when on campus.

I leave my Adium running at home sometimes, and when I sign in to AIM on my laptop I get the "You are signed in at 2 different locations" message, which asks to reply with a "1" to sign out the other name.

The problem is, apparently my Adium at home tries reconnecting, meaning I get the AIM system message several times. Then, when I get home, there's a "too many reconnects" error waiting for me, yet I can use Adium fine on my laptop.

Is there any way I can sign out of AIM/Adium remotely through my laptop?

Just don't disconnect yourself at home.

AIM allows you to remain connected at multiple locations. However, it is preferential on which gets messages.

It will send a message to a client that is active, over idle or away (or both) clients. If you set the client at home on away, and log in periodically throughout the day, it'll work without any problems.

But no, there's no way to remotely sign out.
