Sorry to offend. anyways, this is a pointless argument that i never meant to start. all i did before was ask about the feature and if it was available.

different than my intentions.

just let this thread die out. lol

The advantage (for me, I recognize that it's not for everyone) would be keeping the contact list next to the actual messages. I generally have several windows open at a time, and often have to juggle the placement of different applications' windows. I tend to think of the messages and the contacts as different views on the same task; when I move one window (contact list or messages) to a particular part of the display, I'd love the other to go with it. I think of it as roughly analogous to Mail's message list/preview window.

Sounds kind of like WinAmp, where the EQ and Playlist windows would "stick" to the main window and all drag around together. That sounds like the way to do it, though personally I like it how it is and wouldn't use such a feature.

That's just a message view with a contact list glued to the side and an extended toolbar. i.e. something that doesn't give any sort of benefit here.
I actually REALLY like that picture. What one person sees as a worthless feature, another person can see as a benefit.

Kinda like the old saying goes.. "one person's trash, another person's treasure."

Is there someone that would be willing to code this type of a plug in and put it on the site?

That's not the point. The point is that so far this brings nothing to the table in regards to features, except that it is one window instead of 2.

OS X for the most part is a document based application system, whereas windows/linux/others are not. IF we were to have a non-document style application, we need a better reason than "it's just cool"

I'm not trying to be rude here, but please give something more substantial than what you just posted with.

and if you have no conversation open? does the window shrink? or is one part just empty? that would be wasting space i think...

but generally I like the one 1 window version.

Im not going to add anything to what I said. I never used the old version, and I do not see any of the pics on the first couple pages on the site. This pic on this page is the only picture I have seen of a so called "one-window" version and all I had to add was that I liked it.

Just because it doesn't "bring a new feature to the table" doesn't mean that its a bad thing. That is why IF someone wanted to do it, have it be a plug in or an add on. If you want to use it fine, if not, even better. For a program that is so big on customizing it to how you want it.. I dont see why there is such a backlash. If someone wants it done this way, let them have it.

Even though I *really* want a single window mode to return, I can understand the backlash. The fact is that this would be a very huge undertaking for the devs to embark upon, and if they do not see the benefit of it why should they waste their time? I may not agree with them, but I at least understand their position.

It's not backlash. It's hard to convey on a forum that my post was not angry or anything else. Unfortunately I phrase things in a way that people take it like that a lot of times.

The reason why is it would take a lot of work to get this going, and then to make it look right, it would take a lot more. Whereas we already have a working dual window "Multi-Document" paradigm going already.

Just adding something because someone thinks they will like it is not Adium's focus.

Agreed. If someone wants to work on this as an external plugin, not only is no one going to stop them, no one *can* stop them. However, as has been said, the Adium developers are busy and uninterested in this feature, so the plugin would have to come from the outside. I'm sure if someone wants to take this task on, people would be happy to answer questions.
